20th century London was a place of extremes: wealth and want, war and peace, destruction, and rebuilding... In this talk we look at the tumultuous London of the 20th Century. Through LMA’s picture archive we will visit a London that continues to grow in size and prosperity whilst also grappling with the mixed legacy of its 19th transformation, and the urgent challenges of war.
This series of events will take us on a journey through 500 years of London's history. Our guides will include artists, planners and mapmakers and the myriad of images they created to record the fabric of the city and the people in

THE BRITISH LIBRARY What & when: From 22 July we’re intending to open some of our Reading Rooms in St Pancras and Boston Spa as the first step of a phased reopening. We’re working really hard to open more of our spaces and services as quickly and as safely as possible. What’s new: Our Reading Rooms are now fully booked for the first week. New tickets will be released every Thursday at 11.00. We’re sorry if you weren’t able to book right away, we will increase capacity as it is safe to do so in the coming weeks. Whether you’re researching for your PhD, putting the finishing touches to a business plan or tracing your family tree, we can’t wait to see you back here. To keep everyone safe and maintain social distancing in the Library we’ve made some changes: - You can book for one session per week, a three-hour session starting at 11.00, 11.30 or 12.00 in St Pancras, or a four-hour session starting at 11.00 in Boston Spa - You will need to pre-order collection items that you wish to consult (up to five) at least 48–hours before your booked Reading Room session - You will need to wear a face covering in all areas of the Library to keep everyone safe. It’s okay to take your face covering off once you’re working at your desk in the Reading Room or when eating or drinking in the café, but please remember to replace it when you are moving around the building and when speaking to staff and other users - Please don’t come to the Library if you feel unwell.
