THE ROYAL ACADEMY The Royal Academy of Arts, or as it is often abbreviated, the RA, was founded in 1768 by a group of artists headed by portrait painter Joshua Reynolds. Under Reynolds, the academy functioned as a school aimed at teaching drawing, painting, and sculpture to young artists. It was in 1868 where the RA made its final move to permanent quarters at Burlington House where it remains today. The largest work in the Collection is a series of three murals by Sir James Thornhill (1675-1734), copying an earlier work by Raphael. Thornhill is perhaps most famous for the extraordinary ceiling in the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich. THE ROYAL ACADEMY: SENSING SPACES What: Art Gallery Virtual Tour This art gallery virtual tour at the Royal Academy allows users to explore the Royal Academy’s Sensing Spaces exhibition. High quality 360 photography is a valuable marketing tool for galleries, giving prospective visitors a taste of an exhibition. Additionally, each gallery 360 documents the space, providing an historical document of the exhibition. This can be used to expand the reach of exhibitions, to people who cannot attend due to distance, cost or accessibility. For instance, years after closure, art students, artists and architects can research and thoroughly explore an exhibition. An art gallery virtual tour also provides gallery curators with a valuable resource, allowing them to look back on past exhibitions. NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM -
A cathedral to nature. What & when: Museum will be reopening its doors from Wednesday 5 August. Safety precautions: - We ask that you please wear a face covering. - We'll be providing hand sanitiser stations so you can clean your hands regularly. In 1864 Francis Fowke, the architect who designed the Royal Albert Hall and parts of the Victoria and Albert Museum, won a competition to design the Natural History Museum. When he unexpectedly died a year later, the relatively unknown Alfred Waterhouse took over and came up with a new plan for the South Kensington site. The result? One of Britain’s most striking examples of Romanesque architecture, which is considered a work of art in its own right and has become one of London's most iconic landmarks.  There are numerous cafes in the vicinity. - Exhibition Road to Hyde Park. - Across Exhibition Road Victoria And Albert Museum and next door Science Museum. Price/book: You'll need to book a free ticket before you visit, you won't be able to get in without one. Tickets are now available to book online. Opening times: We're open Wednesday-Sunday from 11.00-18.00 For those who can’t come to the museum, explore the Museum from home by taking a virtual tour and seeing up to 300,000 specimens.
